jesus medvedev

"I'm congratulating all my Russian friends on yesterday's choice, and not only because against the backdrop of rival candidates Gennady Zyuganov and Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Medvedev indeed looked like dear Jesus on the hill of Golgotha."

---- Jaak Allik, parliamentarian belonging to Rahvaliit, on the selection of Dmitri Medvedev.

For a party that is polling at 2% in the most recent polls Allik needs to say something in order to get press.

Eee, Allik often employs sarcasm in his posts, too?

But it could mean that he wants Medvedev dead, or that he feels Dmitri is doomed...

Reading Allik's piece just now, it seems more like a contrarian view I have heard before -- that it is an earnest attempt by Putin to pick the most liberal candidate he could get away with under the circumstances of rabid electorate and Weimar mentality.

Naive, maybe, but not hagiography.

This may be the first time Jesus has been used in Estonian political discourse. Or was Andres Larka fond of invoking Jesus? Any experts out there?
