Noarootsi

When Estonia's own Eurovision groups - Ruffus, Neiokõsõ, Suntribe - fail, there's always one other place an Estonian can look for aspiring blonde pop stars, Sweden.

Swedish pop stars seem a bit different from Estonian pop stars. While Estonian pop stars suffer from borrowing perhaps a bit too much from the burlesque shows of Tallinn in their attire, Swedish pop stars seem like they are bent on serving not only the Swedish market, but the Japanese market as well, with their kitschy mutated 1980s haircuts and tanning-salon gold skin.

But what Eurovision is really about is bringing old Eurotrash chic and new Eurotrash chic closer together. And this year's ambassador of Baltic Sea State pop, the Swedish Sandra Oxenryd, looks like she could pass as an Estonian pop singer - or Swedish, it's so hard to tell! - on any casino-turned-cruise-ship plying the Swedish archipelago on route to Tallinna sadam.

To Sandra, we (me) at Itching for Eestimaa wish you only the best of luck.

We here in Estonia hope that this year we could finally get to the final. Our last song for Eurovision was really awful. But Sandra is a fantastic singer - so we`ll see. But I really can`t understand why Ruffus wasn`t succesful because their song was so good...

Ruffus' song was good, but was it Eurovision good? That is the question.

Ruffus WAS good, I agree. I also think, we take this eurovision-thing too seriously.

Well, I didn't like the last year's song and I don't like Sandra's either. I think Eurovision gets worse every year.

Ruffus was the last song I heard, after that I quit.
No. Actually. The song in setu language was the last one. I guess I was in the process of quitting because I cannot even remember its name or the bands name...

The song we last heard was Neiukõsõ - the group with the Viljandi ladies in medieval costume singing in Võrukeel with the drummer with the bald head and red horns.

Last year's was more girlie pop. This is year is more of the same, though continuing in the tradition of Sahlene by selecting a Swedish popstar to represent Noarootsi once more...
