Calypso I thought was a brand of equipment, but Ingvar might be right.

Norwegians - We had been in SIcily for about four months when in March we saw our first real tourists, a Norwegian family of 4 peddling their bikes. down a back road in the slightly down-at-heel beach town where we lived. Both of the bikes flew Norwegian flags, there was a bit of a "great nations of Europe coming though" feel and also obliviousness. I felt glad I was leaving before the summer...

The Maghreb is a bad place to winter. I did the math a couple years ago .In Morocco's case. Look at your fellow travelers. The fatter the person, the tighter the horisontally-striped T-shirt that they all seem to wear. And then there are those shorts stuck between the buttocks. . . It's like German, which to many non-speakers always sounds a little angry and aggressive, even when the speaker is actually saying something nice.

I remember a couple of middle-aged Moscow Russians -- friends of a friend of my mother-in-law -- who wanted my help in visiting Amsterdam. Of course the first thing they wanted to see was the famous Red Light district. There I was, translating for both husband and wife, who wanted to ask one of the prostitutes in the walls how much it would cost ('is it per hour, or per service? is there a combo pack?'). Not that they actually wanted to purchase their services -- no, as soon as the prostitute answered (in a typically Dutch businesslike tone), husband and wife would make negative signs, and retreat, laughing in each others arms, while I followed, stoichally shaking my head...Lingüistahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327147408198046253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13406351.post-1141945658996423582012-01-03T16:32:05.143+02:002012-01-03T16:32:05.143+02:00Do they offer heavy discounts on these vacations t...Do they offer heavy discounts on these vacations to war zones?
